Cheonan, 08th December, 2024 – The evening came alive in a burst of colors and festivities as the Kenya Community in Korea (KCK) in conjunction with the Kenya Embassy in Korea hosted its much-anticipated End of Year Celebration at the Cheonan Football Centre, Multipurpose Hall. The event also coincided with the celebration of Kenya’s 61 years of Independence and 60 years of Diplomacy. The meeting was attended by Kenyans from across Korea i.e Seoul, Cheonan, Songtan, Daegu, Busan, Deajeon, Incheon, and Gwangju. The Kenya mission in Korea, which was led by H.E Prof. Emmy Kipsoi and DHoM Amb. Jacqueline Kenani graced the event.
The afternoon commenced with a glamorous flowery reception, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening. The distinguished guests were welcomed and guided through an enchanting evening filled with engagement, recognition, and celebration.
The KCK Project Coordinator, Mr. Abel Oketch opened the event with a solemn and uplifting prayer, setting the tone for the evening’s festivities. The venue resonated with patriotic pride as the Kenyan national anthem echoed, symbolizing the ties that binds KCK members even when they are far from home.
Masters of ceremonies Mr. Philip Otieno and Calvins Adalla, welcomed members to the event; thereafter, everybody in attendance was given a chance to do a self-introduction. The Kenyan ambassador to Korea, H.E Prof. Emmy Kipsoi took the opportunity to introduce the newly posted deputy ambassador, Amb. Jacqueline Kenani together with other mission officials.
The highlight of the evening was the President’s speech, where Mr. Wyckliffe Francis addressed the audience, highlighting the achievements and milestones of the association. The KCK President reminded members on the importance of joining the association as it is the only avenue where Kenyans residing in the Republic of Korea can find information relating to issues that affect their daily lives. Additionally, for the association to be self-sustaining, the president floated the idea of KCK having embroidered T-shirts which members can have at a fee. Besides, he urged the community members to remit their annual subscription fees for KCK to be able to cater for its activities.
On her part, H.E Prof. Emmy, the ambassador, highlighted the accomplishments by the mission to the Kenyans living in Korea. Since the meeting was also a chance to celebrate Kenya’s great milestones: 60 years of diplomatic achievements and 61 years of Independence. The Ambassador also noted the growing and promising bilateral relations between Kenya and the Republic of Korea. She also emphasized the great impact that the Diaspora has on national building and Kenya’s advancement.
A moment of prestige followed as outstanding individuals were presented with awards in recognition of their contributions to the community.
As guests indulged in a sumptuous dinner, the dance floor came alive during the DJ’s musical interlude, with attendees showcasing their dance moves in joyful celebration. It was also a moment for Kenyans to get to interact with each other through small talks and shares of laughter.
The event also provided an opportunity for volunteers, sponsors and supporters to express their gratitude and share words of encouragement. The President delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the collective efforts that made the year a resounding success.
The End Year Celebrations by KCK was not just an event; it was a celebration of hard work, community spirit, and shared accomplishments, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who attended.
